Dan Yarnall oversees the firm’s Criminal Defense practice and directs the Crime Victims Advocacy group. He is also a key member of the litigation practice, where he represents clients in Consumer Fraud litigation, business misrepresentation, and complex civil disputes throughout Chester County and southeastern Pennsylvania.
As a former Chester County Prosecutor, Dan brings a unique perspective to every case he handles. He understands how investigations are built, how the opposition operates, and where the leverage points lie in a legal dispute. He uses this insight to negotiate the best possible outcomes for his clients, whether he is defending the accused, advocating for a crime victim, or exposing deceptive business practices.
In his criminal defense practice, Dan draws on his reputation as a West Chester area prosecutor who would never back down from a trial. He has successfully tried many felony cases to verdict and knows how to navigate the complexities of the justice system. From high-stakes white-collar offenses and DUI defense to protecting the futures of college students, Dan uses his knowledge of the Commonwealth’s strategies to identify weaknesses in the government’s case.
Dan’s experience on both sides of the aisle makes him a powerful advocate for crime victims. He recognizes that while the District Attorney represents the state, the victim often needs their own dedicated victims’ rights attorney to ensure their voice is heard. Dan represents individuals and families harmed by criminal conduct, guiding them through the justice system, litigating Protection from Abuse (PFA) orders, and ensuring their rights are protected under the Pennsylvania Crime Victims Act.
Dan applies that same investigative rigor to his civil litigation practice, particularly in Consumer Fraud and Business Misrepresentation. When individuals are misled by deceptive business practices—whether in real estate, construction, or commercial transactions—Dan fights to recover their losses. Consequently, he approaches these civil cases with the mindset of a prosecutor, investigating the facts to hold bad actors accountable.
Although Dan works tirelessly to negotiate favorable outcomes, he is a seasoned trial lawyer who feels most at home in a courtroom. Whether before a judge or a jury, he zealously defends the interests of his clients through the verdict.
Dan attended Temple University Beasley School of Law where he graduated cum laude. While at Temple, Dan was awarded the Barrister Award in Oral Advocacy in Criminal Law. During law school, Dan clerked for the Honorable Garrett D. Page in the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas and later for the Honorable Anthony Massi in the New Jersey Superior Court. Prior to joining Unruh Turner Burke & Frees, Dan served as a Trial Prosecutor in the Chester County District Attorney’s Office and practiced at a prominent insurance defense firm.
Dan is local and lives in Coatesville with his wife and three sons. When he is not in the courtroom, Dan enjoys spending time with his family, reading, writing, and cooking. Originally from King of Prussia, after attending West Chester University, Dan knew Chester County was where he wanted to raise a family and practice law.
